Info about Christine's Virtual Studio

Wellness & Yoga with Christine is a virtual yoga studio based in Boston, MA, catering to midlife high-achievers who want to reduce stress and improve their overall well-being.

I offer live and pre-recorded classes, as well as private one-on-one sessions, to help you find balance and thrive, regardless of your location.

Additionally, I provide special events and workshops that bring a sense of retreat into your life.

My goal is to help you go from feeling overwhelmed and stressed to feeling calm, centered, and empowered.

Yoga is a holistic practice that originated in ancient India and has evolved for thousands of years. At its core, yoga is a mind-body discipline that promotes physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The practice typically involves a series of postures (asanas) performed in conjunction with breathing exercises (pranayama) and meditation.

While yoga is often associated with physical flexibility and strength, its benefits extend far beyond the physical realm. Yoga can help reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and concentration, and promote inner peace and harmony.

Yoga is also a deeply personal practice; each individual may experience it differently. Some people practice yoga to improve their physical health, while others use it as a tool for self-exploration and spiritual growth.

Whether you're a beginner or an experienced practitioner, yoga can be a transformative and enriching practice that supports your overall health and well-being.

Yoga has its origins in ancient spiritual traditions, but it is not a religion. Rather, it is a practice that encompasses physical postures, breathwork, meditation, and mindfulness. While yoga does have some spiritual aspects, it is not tied to any specific religion or belief system.

My classes are secular and non-denominational. I focus on the physical and mental benefits of the practice rather than any specific spiritual beliefs or practices. My classes are designed to help you reduce stress, increase flexibility, and improve your balance. They are free of any "woo woo".

Yoga and Pilates are both popular forms of low-impact exercises. But they are quite different in many ways.

Check out my blog “What’s the difference between yoga and Pilates?” to discover the similarities and differences, so you can decide which might be best for you.

My yoga classes are accessible to everyone, whether you're a beginner or an experienced yogi seeking a gentler practice. My focus is on the good feeling you get from yoga rather than the fancy poses.

Many of my students are high-achievers in midlife (45+) who spend most of their days behind computers and are looking to improve their physical well-being, feel better in their bodies, and reduce stress.

During class, I offer modifications so that you can find a practice that works for you. If you want to intensify your practice, you're welcome to make modifications. It's also okay to take breaks and simply focus on your breath until you're ready to rejoin.

My classes are designed to relieve stress and counter the negative effects of sitting in front of a computer all day. By focusing on gentle movements and relaxation techniques, we work to ease tension in your shoulders, low back, and hips. You'll find my classes to be joyful and easy to follow.

Remember that yoga is not a competition, and there's no need to compare yourself to others in the class. It's a personal practice, and I encourage you to honor your body and listen to your needs.

Yes, I do! I offer new students the opportunity to take your first group session for free. This is a great way for you to get a feel for my virtual studio, meet your teacher (me!), and experience the benefits of yoga firsthand.

I believe that yoga is for everyone, and my introductory offer is one way I demonstrate my commitment to making yoga accessible and inclusive.

Are Online Classes Different From In-Person?

Don't worry if you're uncomfortable with technology; you don't need to be a tech whiz to enjoy my classes.

My prerecorded on-demand classes are incredibly easy to use and simply require the click of a button to start the session. You can access my library of classes at any time and from anywhere, making it easy to fit yoga into your schedule.

If you're interested in taking one of my live classes, I use Zoom to deliver them. Zoom is a popular and user-friendly platform that allows you to join a live class with just a few clicks. I'll send you a link to the class ahead of time, and all you need to do is click on the link to join the session.

If you've never joined a Zoom meeting, you might find this article on "Joining a Zoom meeting" helpful.

So whether you're a tech whiz or a beginner, you should have no problems. And remember, I am always here to help you.

Yes! While online yoga classes may differ from in-person classes, you can get all the physical and mental benefits of yoga from the comfort of your home.

Plus, online classes offer the added benefit of flexibility and convenience, as you can practice yoga wherever and whenever you want. No more worrying about commuting or finding parking to attend your next yoga class.

Another benefit of doing yoga online is that you can practice in the privacy of your own space without the pressure of feeling like you need to keep up with other students. This can help you feel more comfortable exploring and experimenting with different poses and movements, allowing you to focus more fully on your practice.

Yes, you can definitely connect with other students and your teacher in an online class! I encourage it.

Before and after each group class, I keep the virtual studio open for 5-10 minutes so that students can connect with each other and me if they want. This is an excellent opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, and connect with like-minded individuals from all over the world.

Additionally, I regularly host virtual Chat & Chai gatherings for my students so you can get to know each other off the mat.

So don't worry; you won't miss out on the sense of community that comes with practicing yoga in person.

Yoga is a personal practice, and it's important to honor your body and listen to your needs. My classes are designed to be accessible and inclusive. I will offer modifications and adjustments to help you find a practice that works for you. It’s also okay to take breaks and focus on your breath until you're ready to rejoin.

Remember, yoga is not a competition, and there's no need to compare yourself to others in the class. One of the benefits of doing yoga online is that you can practice in your own space without the pressure of feeling like you need to keep up with other students. This can help you feel more comfortable exploring and experimenting with different poses and movements, allowing you to focus more fully on your practice.

Everyone's practice is different, and it's important to honor your body and practice at your own pace. Over time, with consistent practice, you'll find that your strength and flexibility will improve, and you'll be able to move through the poses more easily.

It's common to have questions about alignment and form in yoga. You can always ask me for guidance if you have any questions or concerns about a specific pose. During class, I will offer easy-to-follow verbal cues and demonstrations to help you understand the proper alignment for each pose. I will also offer adjustments and modifications to help you find a variation that works for your body.

If you’d like a handbook with detailed instructions on 21 of the most common yoga poses and how to adjust them to your body, I invite you to check out my 50-page starter guide to yoga. For just $37, you'll get lifetime access to my beginner yoga videos and all the tools you need to get started without fear or intimidation. If you're interested, you can grab the ebook, which also contains the links to the videos, through this link: Your Starter Guide to Yoga for 45+

Trying something new can be intimidating, especially if you're unsure what to expect. That's why I offer new students the opportunity to attend one of my live group classes for free. This way, you can experience my live online classes and see if they're a good fit for you without any financial commitment. Click to check out the class schedule and enter code TRYFREE at check-out to get your first class for free.

What To Wear and "Equipment"

The good news is that you only need a little space to practice yoga! As long as you have enough room to roll out a yoga mat (or a towel) and move your arms and legs freely, you can practice yoga anywhere.

If you're really tight on space, move some furniture to create more room. You can also practice in a hallway, a corner of a room, or outside on a patio or balcony.

I have students joining my classes from their bedrooms, living rooms, walk-in closets, and basements.

To take an online yoga class, you'll need a few basic things:

1. A device with an internet connection: You can take our classes on a laptop, tablet, or smartphone. Just ensure you have a reliable internet connection to access the class without any issues.

2. A quiet, distraction-free space: Find a space in your home where you can practice without distractions or interruptions. It's helpful to let others in your household know that you'll be taking a class so they can avoid disturbing you.

3. A yoga mat: A yoga mat provides cushioning and traction for your hands and feet, making it easier to move through poses. If you don't have a yoga mat, use a towel or a blanket instead. Check out my resources list for my favorite yoga props.

Other equipment, such as blocks or straps, can be helpful but are optional for a basic practice.

That's it! Once you have these basics, you're ready to take an online yoga class.

I recommend wearing comfortable clothes that allow you to move and stretch easily. Since yoga is done barefoot, you won't need any special shoes. Just make sure you're wearing something that you feel comfortable moving in.

One of the great benefits of doing yoga online from the comfort of your home is that you can wear whatever you want! If you want to show up in your pajamas, that's totally fine. Nobody will judge you.

Some people might not like showing their faces on camera during an online yoga class ... and that's totally cool with me. While it's helpful for me to see you, I won't make you to keep your video on.

Having your video on helps me see how you're doing in the poses and give specific feedback and adjustments (without attributing them to you), but I understand if you don't feel comfortable with it.

I want you to feel as comfortable as possible during my classes. I’m always here to answer your questions and help you have a great practice, whether your camera is on or off.
