How to prioritize self-care, even when you're super busy

Over the years, I've gone from thinking that self-care was just another thing on my to-do list to being certain that it's a vital part of my daily life. It's the key to keeping me recharged and relaxed, so I can show up as my best self for all of you.

I know you have a busy schedule. It may seem impossible for you to squeeze in daily self-care activities. But remember: the busier you're, the more important it is to recharge your batteries every single day, even if just for a few minutes. ⏰

You need to give yourself fuel to show up as the best version of yourself in your everyday life. Just a few minutes of daily self-care can do that.

So, how can you get started with a self-care routine that's sustainable?

Here is my 3-step approach to creating a sustainable self-care routine:

Step 1: Make a list of your favorite self-care activities

Don't censor yourself when you make that list. Be creative. Maybe think back to what you enjoyed in your childhood.

Here are some ideas to get you started: dance in your living room to your favorite tune, do yoga, meditate, jump rope, garden, sing karaoke, take a bath, play Wordle, take a nap, do a puzzle, walk in nature, paint, etc.

Step 2: Edit your list

Look at your list and see if you listed any activities that your brain says are good for you but that you don't actually enjoy. Cross those activities off your list. You want to have a very personalized list of activities that YOU actually enjoy and would look forward to doing.

As an example, if you don't enjoy meditation, cross it off the list. Even though meditation is a wonderful way to recharge your batteries, if you aren't enjoying it, you likely won't do it.

Step 3: Schedule self-care into your calendar

Take out your calendar and schedule a 15-minute self-care activity into your calendar as a daily recurring appointment. This daily appointment with yourself is non-negotiable.

You could keep the appointment generic and simply book it as a "15-min fun activity". When it's time for your daily appointment, review your list of fun activities and pick one that you want to do that day. If you are short on time, pick a quick one. If you have more than 15 minutes, pick a longer activity.

By planning ahead and scheduling your self-care activities, you'll find it easier to fit them into your days.

Let me know how this 3-step approach is working for you!
