A Guide for Busy Go-Getters:

How to Live in the Present

You're a go-getter. You are goal-oriented, you make things happen, and you inspire others. You rock!

But let's take a moment to slow down, shall we?

The Art of Just Being

"Just being" sounds simple, right?

But if you're an ambitious person who is always on the go, it can be a real challenge to slow down to enjoy the present. Eventually, this constant striving for more can lead to burnout.

Rather than constantly striving for the next big thing, we need to rediscover the joy of being fully present and engaged in the current moment. It's about taking a deep breath and appreciating the here and now ... without distraction, judgment, or preoccupation with past or future events.

So, how do we do this? Here are five easy-to-implement steps to help you embrace the joy of just being.

Step 1: Start your day with a few deep breaths

Begin your day with a moment of mindfulness. Before you reach for your phone or start planning your day, take 3-5 deep breaths. Put one or both hands on your belly. Feel your belly expand on each inhale and feel it soften on each exhale. Feel the cool air entering your lungs and the warm air leaving. This simple act of mindfulness can set a positive tone for the rest of your day.

Step 2: Practice Yoga

Yoga is a fantastic way to connect with your body and quiet your mind. Even a short, 15-minute session can make a big difference. Focus on your breath, feel your body move, and let go of any tension. Remember, it's not about perfecting the poses, it's about being present in the moment. Want to do a 15-minute yoga session right now? Click here for free short yoga sessions on my website.

Step 3: Take Tech Breaks

We're all guilty of being a little too attached to our electronic devices. Constant connectivity can lead to stress and burnout. So, schedule regular tech breaks throughout your day. Use this time to stretch, take a walk, or simply look out the window. Trust me, those emails can wait a few minutes.

Step 4: Embrace Nature

Nature has a wonderful way of grounding us. Make it a point to spend some time outdoors every day. Feel the sun on your skin, listen to the birds, and smell the fresh air. Even a short walk around the block during your lunch break can help you reconnect with the joy of just being.

Step 5: End Your Day with Gratitude

Before you go to bed, take a moment to reflect on your day. What are you grateful for? It could be a yummy meal, a great conversation, or a kind word from a colleague or friend. Practicing gratitude can help you appreciate the simple joys of life.

The Journey to Just Being

In essence, "just being" is a way of living that encourages us to slow down, pay attention, and appreciate the richness of our everyday experiences. It's a counterbalance to our fast-paced, achievement-oriented culture.

By re-learning the skills of "just being", you will achieve even greater satisfaction, without burning out in the process.

Don't know where to start on your journey to just being?

I invite you to choose one out of the 5 steps listed above and take it on for a week. See if you notice a difference in how you feel. And then maybe add another step the following week.

Remember, the journey to just being is just that - a journey. It's not about perfection, but about making small, consistent changes.

So let's embrace the joy of just being, shall we? Because life is not just about doing, achieving, and conquering. It's also about being: being present, being mindful, and being kind to ourselves. And that, my dear high-achiever, is a goal worth striving for.

Best, Christine
