Why Yoga Is So Beneficial

If you've been reading my weekly blog for a while, first, thank you. You make my work of writing this blog worthwhile!

And second, you've read my repeated appeals to you to bring yoga into your life. 🧘🏻‍♀️

But despite all my best attempts to convince you, I'm well aware that many of my readers still haven't tried yoga.

Or maybe you tried yoga eons ago, didn't like that particular teacher, and then never tried yoga again.

To convince you once and for all that you should give yoga a try, here are 5 sassy reasons why I do yoga (and why you should too!):

  1. Buy more yoga pants: First and foremost, yoga gives me the perfect excuse to buy all the yoga pants my heart desires. #yogapantshoarder
  2. Catch some zzz's: Yoga class is the only place where sleeping in class is not only allowed but encouraged. Hello, Savasana!
  3. Ditch my high heels: Practicing yoga helps improve my posture, so I look taller and can ditch my uncomfortable high heels. It’s all about comfort now, right?
  4. Keep my sanity: Yoga calms down my crazy monkey mind and helps me relax; who wouldn't want that?
  5. Be able to kick my own ass: And lastly, yoga keeps me flexible enough to kick my own ass when necessary. Because let's be real, sometimes we need a little self-motivation 😉

Are you still not convinced?

Do you want some scientific evidence?

Okay, here you go ... here are 5 scientifically-proven benefits of yoga:

  1. Improved flexibility and balance: A study published in the International Journal of Yoga found that regular yoga practice significantly improves flexibility and balance in older adults.
  2. Reduced stress and anxiety: A systematic review of yoga interventions for anxiety and depression found that yoga can significantly reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.
  3. Improved cardiovascular health: A study published in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine found that a 12-week yoga intervention lowers cardiovascular risk factors such as high blood pressure, heart rate, and cholesterol.
  4. Improved sleep quality: A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that a yoga intervention significantly improves sleep quality in older adults with insomnia.
  5. Improved respiratory function: A study published in the Journal of Asthma found that a yoga intervention improves lung function in patients with asthma.

Are you convinced now?? If not, I don't know what else to do. 😳

I'm curious: If you do practice yoga, what's your #1 reason? And if you aren't practicing yoga (yet!), what's holding you back? Email me to let me know.

Best,
Christine
