How to make progress towards your dream life

Is it just me or did the first half of 2021 just fly by? How did we get to July so quickly?

I remember being so excited as a kid when July came around because that meant I got to play for the next two months. But it also meant that the daily structure went away (no more school or homework!) and I needed to come up with my own activities. How did you spend your summer breaks as a kid?

Being very organized and trying to improve my typing skills, I would type up my daily schedule every morning on a manual typewriter. Believe me, it was a super boring schedule. But I thought it looked professional and important when typed up! 😂

I would list the TV shows I was going to watch that day (with the start and end times), when I would head over to my friend Regina's house to play, and any other activities I had planned that day. I'm surprised my parents didn't send me to a shrink!!

This love for lists eventually evolved into a love for tables and spreadsheets. (Hey, this came in very handy as a financial analyst!). There are very few things I don't create spreadsheets for (just ask my fiance, who is often on the receiving end of my spreadsheets).

So I would like to introduce you to my Mid-Year Reflections table! This table provides you with a structure to reflect on your past 6 months and to set goals for the next 6 months. I want you to make progress towards your dream life!

At the mid-year point, it's a good idea to take a moment to look back at the past six months. Start by asking yourself a few questions related to your life overall:

  • Did the past 6 months bring you closer in alignment with the life you want to live?
  • Did you achieve the goals you had set for yourself?

Then jot down the different areas in your life that matter to you in the left column (your areas might be different from the ones listed below) and then create three columns for reflection:

  • Highlights: Write down a few events or experiences from the past 6 months
  • Desired Outcome: How do you want this area to look by year-end?
  • Action Ideas: Jot down at least one idea on how to get there

Once you've reflected on the past six months and set your goals for year-end, think about ways to help you achieve those goals:

  • Who can help you get to the next level (career coach, yoga & wellness coach, therapist, financial advisor, friend, etc)?
  • What can you automate, delegate, or eliminate so that you have more time for the areas that you want to give more attention to?

Why don't you download this table and take some time, maybe with a cup of tea or a glass of your favorite wine, to reflect and fill it out? You might be surprised by what you discover!

This exercise may help you figure out how to spend your time more intentionally, so you create the life YOU want to live! Are there areas in your life that you have been neglecting and that need more attention?

You don't want year-end 2021 to roll around without you having made any progress towards your dream life.

Let me know what you think about this exercise and which areas you're going to focus on more over the next few months.

Best,
Christine
