Do you enjoy learning about wellness? Here are some things I'm enjoying right now and that you might enjoy too:
Are you a wellness junky who snickers (but secretly is curious) about these over-the-top and often expensive treatments that are touted all over the web, and maybe even by some of your friends, under the guise of wellness? Then check out the book "The Gospel of Wellness: Gyms, Gurus, Goop, and the False Promise of Self-Care" by Rina Raphael. A fun and interesting expose on the wellness industry exploits that try to sell us "health" in a bottle. If you think Gwyneth Paltrow has gone nuts with some of her Goop products, then you'll enjoy this book.
Have you ever lost a loved one, whether human or animal kind? Were you struggling with the grief? Then you might be interested in this new podcast series: "All There Is with Anderson Cooper." I'm totally into it. As you might know, Anderson lost his father to cancer and his brother to suicide when Anderson was quite young. He also recently lost his mom, Gloria Vanderbilt.
This podcast is a deeply personal account of Anderson's struggle with loss and grief, including trying to make sense of his brother's suicide. It's a topic that is not often discussed in public, yet so many of us experience loss during our lives. Warning: this podcast deals with suicide. [If you have suicidal thoughts, please dial 988 to access the suicide & crisis lifeline (in the US)].
Are you curious about how successful businesses got started and the struggles the founders went through to get to where they're today? Then check out Guy Raz's long-running podcast "How I Built This." As you might know, I'm a former professional investment manager and current angel investor (and yoga & wellness coach), so this podcast is right up my alley. You might enjoy it too.
Every week, he interviews the founders of well-known companies, talking candidly about why they started their businesses and the ups and downs of trying to grow them. While he talks to companies across all industries, some of the episodes are about "wellness" companies, such as spinning studios Soul Cycle (episode 334), diet company Noom (episode 436), mattress company Casper (episode 354), and eco-friendly cleaning company Seventh Generation (episode 310).
Are you constantly looking for your reading glasses? I have half-a-dozen pairs spread across my home, yet I never seemed to have them nearby ... I finally admitted defeat and bought a LA LOOP eyeglass holder necklace, so my glasses are always with me. Their eyeglass holders are a bit expensive, but they look good enough to wear all the time (I purchased the model "Rae" in brown). You might even mistake them for a decorative necklace. No more looking feverishly for my reading glasses!
Last, don’t miss checking out this Instagram reel I created to show you simple stretches to release tightness after spending hours at your computer. It's just 15 seconds long and has been watched by over 10,000 people.
